Who's assessing your child

Meet Teacher Bev.

Teacher Bev
English Teacher & Early Childhood Specialist
English teacher & early childhood educatorThree years of teaching phonicsOrton-Gillingham & the Science of ReadingSpecialises in reading & oral confidence

Teacher Bev is an English teacher who takes children from phonics to PSLE.

An NUS graduate with three years of phonics teaching, she builds her lessons on the Orton-Gillingham and the Science of Reading methodologies, and specialises in reading and oral confidence.

She grew up with dyslexia, so she knows how much the right help, early on, can change a child's school journey.

For this run, your child will be tasked to complete three assignments, each featuring seven fundamental competencies that your child will need in Primary 1, and with each progressively harder in difficulty.

Teacher Bev will mark these assignments by hand and provide an explanation video after each assignment to help your child develop and learn the required competencies.

At the end of the run, Teacher Bev will also provide a P1 Readiness Report to help you understand the areas where your child needs support, and how to help him/her improve.

Why your child will benefit from this

A confident start to Primary 1

Getting ready for Primary 1 isn’t about drilling papers. It’s about knowing whether the basics are in place, and what to do if they aren’t. Most parents are left guessing.

Doing it yourself as a parent
  • There’s no clear picture of what “ready” looks like, so it’s hard to tell if your child is on track or just coping.
  • Phonics, sight words and spoken English are hard to judge if you haven’t been trained to teach reading.
  • Writing has no answer key, so you can’t tell whether a sentence is good enough.
  • A wrong answer doesn’t tell you why, and a young child often can’t explain it either.
  • With no deadlines, practice slips to “next week”.
With Teacher Bev
  • Every assignment is marked by hand by an early childhood and phonics specialist, covering phonics, sight words, word meaning, listening, reading, speaking and writing.
  • Every real mistake gets a recorded explanation of why it’s wrong and how to get it right. The videos run about 10 minutes and you can rewatch them together.
  • The approach is built on Orton-Gillingham and the Science of Reading, with a focus on reading and speaking confidence.
  • You finish with a 10-minute P1 Readiness Report, so you know what’s strong and what to work on before P1 starts, or while your child is settling in.
  • Three assignments with set deadlines over about 21 days keep practice on track.
  • One run - no long-term commitment, no recurring fees, but an excellent supplement to tuition.
Questions parents ask

The finer details about this run.

What happens after I book a slot?

You can start the run immediately, or on a particular date if you prefer. The first assignment will be provided to you shortly after receiving your booking.

When are the submission deadlines for each practice?

The deadlines for the assignments will be set in a staggered manner (one at a time), spread across the entire run (~21 days). This gives your child enough time to go through the explanation video for each assignment before attempting the next.

Do I need to follow the submission deadlines?

Yes, please. The deadlines function as a practice routine that your child can follow. Teacher Bev has also planned their schedule around the deadlines. So if you miss a deadline, Teacher Bev will still mark the assignment but may not be able to provide the explanation video.

How long should I give my child to complete the assignments?

There’s no exam timer. Let your child work in short, relaxed sessions and spread the components across a few days if they tire easily. What matters is that they attempt each part on their own, so the marking shows where they really are.

How will I know when a new assignment is ready or has been marked/explained?

You will see alerts in your run dashboard and you will also receive email notifications regarding the key milestones within the run.

What if a run is full?

You can join the waitlist and we'll let you know if more slots are made available as well as give you early access for the next one that opens for registration. Slots are limited on purpose: this is so that Teacher Bev can allocate the right amount of time & attention to your child's work.

Is this exam preparation?

No. This run isn’t about past-year papers or scores. It helps you see whether your child is ready for Primary 1, and it gives them practice in the skills they’ll need, from phonics to speaking up in class.

My child is already in Primary 1. Is it still suitable?

Yes. The run is open to children from Kindergarten 2 to Primary 1. If your child is already in P1 and finding it tough, the marking and the P1 Readiness Report show which areas need support.
