Daryl is the founder and lead English teacher at Mind's Eye Learning Hub in Balestier, where he teaches PSLE English Composition and Paper 2 to primary school students. He calls himself "The Most Interesting English Teacher" and his mission is simple: make English fun, friendly and familiar. On Instagram (@daryl.mindseyeenglish) he spends a lot of time busting the habits that quietly cost children marks, from memorised model compos to stories packed with characters who do nothing. Parents describe him as patient and encouraging, and say their children come home actually wanting to write.

For this run, he will mark each practice your child completes by hand, then record the corrections and explanations so your child can watch and learn from them. He will also wrap up with a report and exam insights at the end of the run.

What's included

One slot. All inclusive.

Here are all the things included in the run when you book a slot. The underlying methodology is simple: follow a practice routine, have your paper marked and mistakes explained clearly, and learn how to do better for the real exam.

01

3 past-year practice papers

Handpicked by Daryl from real school papers at your child's level.

02

Full marking, by hand

Every composition marked the way an examiner would - not based on a model answer key provided by the publisher.

03

15-min explanation videos

After each practice, Daryl explains the mistakes and helps your child understand how to get them right the next time. If there's more than 15 minutes' worth, he'll cover the ones that matter most.

04

15-min report & exam insights

At the end of the run, Daryl provides you with an assessment of your child's performance, as well as specific tips on what to look out for during the exams.

Why your child will benefit from this

Getting your child to write was never the hard part.

Past-year papers are still one of the best ways to get your child exam-ready - real questions, real exposure, real odds in their favour. Marking it the right way is critical - low quality model answer keys result in low quality corrections. Explaining the mistakes accurately, the way a qualified teacher would, is essential - and it's the part you as a parent were never trained for.

Doing it yourself as a parent
  • Finding the time to read through every composition properly, on top of everything else.
  • Even when you do, knowing a paragraph feels "flat" isn't the same as knowing how to fix it.
  • There's no single right answer to mark against, so it's hard to know exactly where content or language marks were lost.
  • The marking scheme splits composition into content and language marks; most parents don't know how to grade against that split.
  • The compositions you get your child to write at home have no deadline - easy to plan, easy to let slip.
With Daryl
  • Daryl marks it himself, against the same content and language split used in the real exam.
  • Every real weakness gets a recorded explanation - why marks were lost, and exactly how to fix it - rewatchable anytime.
  • Marked the way a teacher knows schools actually expect - not someone else's best guess.
  • Explained clearly and simply enough for any child to follow along, no bombastic words needed, just what actually scores.
  • A submission deadline for each composition - so writing becomes a routine, not something left to the last minute.
  • One run - no long-term commitment, no recurring fees, but an excellent supplement to tuition.
Questions parents ask

The finer details about this run.

What happens after I book a run?

You can start the run immediately, or on a particular date if you prefer. The practices will be assigned and provided to you shortly after receiving your booking.

When are the submission deadlines for each practice?

The deadlines for the practices will be set in a staggered manner (i.e. one at a time), spread across the entire run (~30 days). This gives your child enough time to go through the explanation video for each practice before attempting the next.

Do I need to follow the submission deadlines?

Yes, please. The deadlines function as a practice routine that your child can follow. Daryl has also planned his schedule around the deadlines. So if you miss a deadline, Daryl will still mark the paper but may not be able to provide the explanation video.

How long should I give my child to complete the practice?

This is indicated in the dashboard (as per exam standards). Daryl strongly recommends that your child attempts the paper with a mindset and environment that mimics a dry-run - no distractions, in one sitting, and attempt every question.

How will I know when a new practice is ready or has been marked/explained?

You will see alerts in your run dashboard and you will also receive email notifications regarding the key milestones within the run.

What if a run is full?

You can join the waitlist and we'll let you know if more slots are made available as well as give you early access for the next one that opens for registration. Slots are limited on purpose: this is so that Daryl can allocate the right amount of time & attention to your child's work.
